The nation of Israel holds a very special place in God’s future plan for all humanity. “For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. The LORD did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”– Deuteronomy 7:6-8
God set Israel apart to be His representatives to the whole world and bring salvation through Jesus Christ for all, through them. “Salvation is from the Jews” –John 4:22
Why should Believers support Israel? Biblically, Israel is the “chosen people of God” and dearly loved by Him. Therefore, being Believers in Christ and His work on the Cross, we must support and love them dearly also. Another reason to support Israel and the people is because of the Abrahamic Covenant. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” – Genesis 12:2-3; Genesis 27:29 and Numbers 24:9 states God’s promise.
In Romans 11: 16-36 a picture is given of an olive tree and how God works in his people and their relationship with each other. The branches of the olive tree are the Jewish people and the wild olive shoot are Gentiles Believers. God has grafted them together and the whole tree shows how God works for all of His people. Promises made to Israel are still going to be kept in the future. We can be sure that all God has said is true and will take place, because of His character, faithfulness and consistency.
Jesus revealed in Luke 13: 34-35 that at His Second Coming, Israel will welcome Him as the Messiah saying “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” At My Olive Tree the relationship between God’s people is incredibly important.
