The Kidron Valley, also known as the “Valley of the Kings” or “Garden of the Kings,” is an ancient section of Jerusalem located on its eastern side. It is a region in which the kings of old, as well as Jesus Himself, once walked, which means it is packed with history and an undeniable aura of excitement and anticipation. According to scripture, this is the very site where Jesus will pass through when He returns to earth. As such, Christians worldwide revere this valley.
In ancient times, this region was a private garden for the kings of Israel, and featured burial plots and chambers for some of the highest-ranking officials of the Kingdom of Judea, including the Pharaoh’s daughter. It is also the valley that was crossed by King David to escape his son Absalom, and the valley where Jesus walked several times.
The King’s Valley remains today as an extremely important symbol of faith and hope; however, this valley is no longer the lush garden it was historically. Instead, it is a barren strip of land, which has been battled over for generations, with the valley undergoing major changes depending on which culture is in power at the time. There is little peace or stability for those who live there.
Tragically, many of the ancient tombs have long been destroyed, and houses have been built over them. The area that once featured expansive olive groves has now dried up, and those trees have vanished. But at My Olive Tree, we are working to reverse these unfortunate events.
Scripture tells us that “Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it” (see Jer. 3:17). We are already witnessing God restore the land of Israel—this prophecy of restoration is spread throughout the Old Testament. My Olive Tree is working to be a part of that restoration by bringing the olive trees back to the King’s Valley.
Our mission is to rebuild the Garden of the Kings and restore the agriculture of this region that was once teeming with life. We allow people from all over the globe to sponsor trees, which are then planted in our groves and worked by locals.
