When My Olive Tree started planting olive trees in the desert we understood that it was so much more than just planting a tree. This was Biblical prophecy coming to life, while paving the way for the future generations to come.
Planting trees in the wasteland of the desert…
My Olive Tree has been planting olive trees in Israel for over 10 years. In that time, our donors have made it possible for planting over 30,000 trees! It is our goal to plant one million trees over the next 7 years. Our focus is to plant most of these trees in the Negev Desert.
While it may seem to make more sense to plant olive trees in a place where they would grow more easily, after all olive trees do need to be watered quite regularly in order to thrive. However, we are firm believers that what the biblical prophets Amos and Isaiah predicted will come to pass, whether we choose to be the ones to do it or not.
“‘On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, and repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old; that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name,’ says the Lord who does this thing. ‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘when the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows seed; the mountains shall drip with sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it. I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; they shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; they shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them. I will plant them in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,’ says the Lord your God.”—Amos 9:11-15
“The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose”—Isaiah 35:1
Many have been startled by our measure of faith, but we remind them that the promises found in Acts 3:21 are already beginning to take place before our very eyes.
Israel has been restored as a nation, with the return of Jews and Jerusalem as its capital… Evangelicals are returning to the Jewish roots of their faith… The King’s Oil has been restored to the Church…
And now, we are planting trees (and vineyards) in the desert to fulfill the prophecies of Israel’s physical restoration described by the biblical prophets, Amos and Isaiah.
We must admit that when we began this journey there were times where we were discouraged. This is no easy feat, and so many other organizations make claims that they too plant trees in the desert. However, so often these claims are found to be false in the fact that the trees, soon after planting, are left neglected to fend for themselves.
We have been shocked by stories of others who have planted a tree in the Holy Land only to find out that it was later abandoned.
That said, we know all too well how difficult it is to get access to water in a nation that is primarily desert. It wasn’t until we begin a unique partnership with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) that we could combat this water shortage. Due to our longstanding standing relationship with the City of Jerusalem, we were humbly invited to connect with the IDF. They alone are responsible for water sourcing across the country, and they have chosen our mission to support! We just could not have been more thrilled or excited.
It is moments like that one, where you know that you are on the right path. What we couldn’t have expected was that an even greater impact would come from planting these trees.
Here are just a few of the ways we are seeing restoration through the planting of olive trees:
- Creating jobs for Israeli immigrants returning to their land…
- Boosting Israel’s economy through bountiful and ongoing harvests…
- Generating revenue for various humanitarian aid projects, such as feeding and caring for underprivileged kids…
- Showing peace and hope to soldiers working in some of the most dangerous and difficult areas along Israel’s borders…
- Producing abundant crops, oxygen, and rainfall—even in the dry lands of the Negev Desert…
- And much, much more…
Are you a believer yet? We know we are. That said, we could not do this without you! Each year we plant trees, and each year the needs to be met return in even greater measure. So many are in need of jobs… so many need hope.
Let us tell you a little bit about our planting process…
Step 1: With a one-time investment, an olive tree will be sponsored in your name, or the name of a family member, friend, or loved one.
Step 2: Your investment covers the expense of planting the tree and caring for it for its first 7 years—until it becomes healthy and mature. We have partnered with farmers and locals to carefully tend to your adopted tree so that it will have everything it needs to grow quickly and produce a healthy harvest at around age 3.
Step 3: Shortly after your sponsorship, you will receive a beautiful certificate of authenticity and be able to locate your name or that of your tributee on our Wall of Honor!
Step 4: At 2-3 years of age, your tree will start producing fruit. The harvesting of this fruit will create new job opportunities for Israeli immigrants, and the olives that are harvested will be processed into the finest quality of olive oil and olive oil products.
Step 5: Each year, revenue from the olive products created from our trees is invested back into the nation of Israel to be used for various humanitarian aid projects.
In this way, your tree will become an ongoing blessing to the nation of Israel!
Won’t you join us as we continue to work towards our goal of planting 1 million olive trees in the desert? Won’t you stand with us in support of the nation of Israel, and the people within her borders?
