The King’s Valley: Where Your Faith Comes Full Circle

Faith comes full circle in the King's Valley

The King’s Valley, also known as the Kidron Valley, is viewed as one of the most sacred and highly traveled areas in the Bible. Located on the eastern edge of Jerusalem, between the Temple Mount and the Mount of Olives… this sacred location also points to our future, and the return of our King. Looking out over the King’s Valley, you’ll see a contrast of scenery—from tomb-lined slopes to blooming olive trees finally ready for harvest.

Jesus’ journey through the King’s Valley when He came to save

Have you ever asked yourself how you would’ve responded to Jesus as you gathered at His table to celebrate the Passover meal—commonly known as the Last Supper—with He and His disciples?

Jesus told them that one among them would betray Him. He went on to explain that His body was broken, and His blood would be shed for them—and for us (see Matthew 26:20-28).

After sharing their meal, Jesus and His disciples sang a hymn and began their journey from Jerusalem across the King’s Valley (or Kidron Valley) toward the Mount of Olives.

But why did they journey to the Mount of Olives?

Jesus made His way to the Mount of Olives to pray to the Father, as He knew His arrest was coming and His death was imminent.

If you aren’t familiar with the area, the Garden of Gethsemane is located near the foot on the Mount of Olives, nestled right on the edge of the King’s Valley. It was a common journey for Jesus to make the trek across the valley. He visited Lazarus, Mary, and Martha in Bethany and traveled through the King’s Valley to get there.

Let’s look at some biblical references, and the significance of Jesus’ journey through this historical valley…

You can see the significance of the land and how a full circle of life and faith took place there. The King’s Valley holds memories we can only read about as we anticipate Jesus’ return.

Jesus’ journey across the King’s Valley when He returns to rule

Many Christians believe Jesus Christ will return to earth on the Mount of Olives, cross over the King’s Valley, and reenter the City of Jerusalem as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Your journey through the King’s Valley today

The King’s Valley, once barren, has been planted with olive trees that are ready for harvest. This once lush garden in ancient times became dry and arid. It is now coming full circle in anticipation!

“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.”—Romans 8:19

While God prepares for a great harvest of souls, He is also preparing the land so that we can enjoy a plentiful harvest now and wait expectantly for His return.

“And sow fields and plant vineyards, that they may yield a fruitful harvest.”—Psalm 107:37

He has given us an extraordinary opportunity to enjoy the fruits of His labor. Though it’s taken years for the olive trees in the King’s Valley to become “white for harvest,” we can enjoy the gathered fruit and rejoice together in the labor!

“Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.”—John 4:35-36
