What does it mean to be “known of God?” How do we live in the fullness of God’s love and care? What can we do to not only tap into His goodness, but show it to others? Join us below as we answer these and other questions relating to the goodness of God!

What does it mean to be known by God?

Every person on Earth, even those who ignore God or perhaps have never even heard of Him, are known by God. Before each of us were in our mother’s womb, He knew us. Further, the level God knows us is beyond our imagining; beyond that of any family or friends. God even knows the desires of our hearts; desires so deep, no one else could hope to understand…

We all desire to be known, seen, and loved. Not only when we excel, but in spite of everything we fail at. Often though, we seek these from the wrong places.

From an early age we often pretend to be different than our true selves so that others will like us; to make them proud of us, admire us, or even love us. There are personas for different places, for different people. From a ‘work persona,’ to a ‘church persona,’ to an ‘in-laws persona,’ a ‘teacher persona…’ on and on our behavior can vary depending on who we are with, or where we are. And while it is not always a bad thing—for instance, behaving in a more professional manner at work than with friends—sometimes we hide pieces of ourselves…

We almost display a pristine version of our lives: highlighting every success, cute story, or pretty picture, while leaving out every stumbling moment, hectic day, or bad picture. Perhaps even tucking away those things or callings God has placed within because it is not what some desire. Yet, is it true?

Despite having a fuller picture of us than ANYONE—including ourselves—could ever hope to see, God still loves us! He loves every one of our highlights and moments of joy, but He also loves us when we stumble or are busy kneeling to pick up the broken pieces of our lives. He still holds us and raises us up. He knows us, loves us, and never leaves us!

Because God made us, He is the one we need to turn to so that we can know what we are meant to do daily and in the long term. He never misses a thing. He counts every hair, every scar or laugh line… and through it all, we are met with His love!

“You can buy two sparrows for only a copper coin, yet not even one sparrow falls from its nest without the knowledge of your Father. Aren’t you worth much more to God than many sparrows? So don’t worry. For your Father cares deeply about even the smallest detail of your life.”—Matthew 10:29-31 (TPT)

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.”—Psalm 139:1

Live a Life Known of God:

The level of God knowing us is so intimate, beautiful, and loving, that we have no way to fully grasp its intensity. Even our understanding that God sent His Son, Jesus, to die horribly, confront hell and the grave, before returning to the Father… even that is only the smallest glimpse into the fullness of who God is and how deep His love for us runs. His knowing us.

God remembers and cares for every detail of our lives. That is an unchanging fact no matter how we may stray. Yet, by offering ourselves up as a temple—a dwelling place—for the Holy Spirit and seeking God with all our heart… we gain relationship! We come to understand more with each passing day the fullness of what it means to be known of God.

Yes, we can settle for simply realizing our Father knows us deeper than any other. However, why would we settle when we can know and EXPERIENCE Him with all our being!?

Because experiencing helps us to understand that God:

When we cultivate a relationship with God, it reveals His fullness layer by layer. God’s light shines into the depths our heart, burning up the dross, while leaving in its place the fruit of His Spirit …

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”—Galatians 5:22-23

How can we share these blessings?

By calling on the name of God and allowing His Holy Spirit to reign in us as His temple, we come to UNDERSTAND that God knows us and we EXPERIENCE it. This experience allows relationship to grow, which in turn allows blessings to spring forth. Yet, these blessings are not merely for our joy alone—they are also for shining the light of our Father throughout the world!

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”—Luke 6:38

So, how do we share these blessings? Well, when God provides us with His love and care, even when we wear our imperfections like a banner, we are to provide love and care to our brothers and sisters…

When God blesses us with faithfulness, we are to be faithful to Him, and to those around us.

When God blesses us with His self-control, we are meant to utilize it, having patience with everyone we encounter.

And when God blesses us with abundance—for He always provides what we need and beyond in the proper season—then we are to give of that abundance. We are to bless others and honor God, who blesses us even when we do not deserve it.

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”—Matthew 7:11

Therefore, let us plant trees of His blessing. Let us plant hope within those who mourn; rekindling the truth that they are known of God. Let us remind the leaders of all nations that it is God who knows the hearts of man, and it is He who weighs them.

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts.”—Proverbs 21:2

“If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,’ does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?”—Proverbs 24:12
