Olive Oil Treatments for Dry Skin and Scalp

Olive oil treatments are great for skin and hair

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of eating well and staying properly hydrated during the winter months. Many times a healthy diet, capped with a couple of daily doses of extra virgin olive oil can help combat dry skin and scalp all on its own.

That said, if you live in extremely dry conditions such as ours, extra precautions may be necessary. Here in the Midwest, many times we experience below freezing temperatures only to wake the following day to glorious sunshine. Life on the plains is never dull and the constant shift in weather is hard on both skin and hair.

What we find most disappointing about the myriads of choices available in the health and beauty aisle is their long list of ingredients that typically contain words that have been used to disguise harsh chemical’s that actually produce greater damage than they do in repairing it. The question is, why spend so much money on items such as these when your own kitchen may hold the very solution to your problem.

Did you know that extra virgin olive oil, either by itself or paired with other ingredients, can create a hair mask that hydrates and repairs split ends, while moisturizing your scalp as well?

Olive Oil Honey Mask [i]

Ingredients:

½ cup EVOO

¼ cup honey

3 vitamin E capsules (pierce, drain, discard gel cap)

 Directions:

Mix the ingredients together in a bowl. Apply generously to the ends of hair working the mixture up into the scalp. Tuck hair inside of a shower cap and leave on for at least 90 minutes. Remove cap and wash hair with warm water, making sure to use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, as it is gentle on the hair and scalp.

Extra virgin olive oil can be used as a lip balm, a facial scrub and like we said earlier, for countless other uses, too.

So if you’re looking to give yourself a day away at the spa, or are desperately searching for something that will help keep that curly hair from frizzing this winter, why not give My Olive Tree’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil a try?

Before you spend hundreds of dollars on products that may or may not work, go natural and try these homemade treatments first.
