Olive Trees: Biblical Inspiration

Olive tree grove

Today, at My Olive Tree, we’re celebrating olive trees in scripture. There are so many references to this incredible tree and its fruit that it was hard to just choose a few. Still, we we’ve narrowed down to a list of our personal favorites, which we would like to share with you here:

“But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.”—Psalm 52:8

“These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.”—Revelation 11:4

“Then I answered and said to him, ‘What are these two olive trees—at the right of the lampstand and at its left?’”—Zechariah 4:11

“And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree.”—Romans 11:17

“Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left.”—Zechariah 4:3

“Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table.”—Psalm128:3

“And I further answered and said to him, ‘What are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains?’”—Zechariah 4:12

“His branches shall spread; His beauty shall be like an olive tree, and his fragrance like Lebanon.”—Hosea 14:6

“For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?”—Romans 11:24

“I will plant in the wilderness the cedar and the acacia tree, the myrtle and the oil tree;

I will set in the desert the cypress tree and the pine and the box tree together.”—Isaiah 41:9

“He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”—Psalm 1:3

“Then the dove came to him in the evening, and behold, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth; and Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth.”—Genesis 8:11

“Do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.”—Romans 11:18

“For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.”—Jeremiah 17:8

At My Olive Tree we are firmly rooted and planted in the Word of God. We love to find biblical references to the olive tree specifically, as it reaffirms the importance of revitalizing the Holy Land with this historical agricultural staple.

If you would like to learn more about the work that we do in Israel, we invite you to join us HERE, where we share with a more in-depth look at our personal mission statement. Not only do we plant trees, but also the fruit from these trees provide for the necessary resources we need to continue sowing seeds of hope into the lives of children and adults who are in desperate need of love and care.
