Many start out the New Year with goals of improving themselves. Maybe it is a vision of improving health or personal financial situations, but there are others who dare to think beyond themselves. These individuals are moved to build relationships and show compassion to those around them.
If you are tired of the indifference and animosity surrounding us in our world today, step out in faith. Don’t let last year define how you will care for those in need this year.
Compassion is defined as, “a concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others; selfless.” Scheduled compassion seems to be woven into our society at the end of the year. It’s an expected time to open up our wallets and hearts to the poor, elderly, and needy.
Have you stopped to consider what the rest of the year is like for those that have experienced deep pain and hardship?
At My Olive Tree we have a heart to meet the needs of those who have endured inconceivable suffering… Holocaust survivors.
Unfortunately, these precious lives are often overlooked and forgotten, but we vow never to forget! Because if true history is not remembered, a false narrative takes its place.
We cannot help the needy if we do not choose to remember them. We are called to employ compassion.
“Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.”—Hebrews 13:3 (NLT)
God has placed in each one of us an instinct to care for those around us. It is up to us to choose to act on this gift of empathy. When we choose to listen, and do what is honorable, we are filled with peace and blessings.
“But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”—Matthew 6:3-4
Throughout past visits to Israel, My Olive Tree has meet with hundreds of Holocaust survivors. We have danced, celebrated and remembered with them.
As these survivors grow older, we have seen many who struggle to care for themselves. Your tree sponsorship through My Olive Tree is a gift of hope, love and restoration for Israel and the Jewish people. It provides basic daily needs, along with spiritual and emotional needs for these precious lives.
Choose 2018 to be the year that you will be actively compassionate. Set a different, selfless resolution this year. Remember a precious and unique group of people who survived some of the most horrific acts in human history.
