You may have heard about our work in the desert planting olive trees and vineyards from a friend or relative. Possibly, they are even asking you to plant a tree yourself. Maybe you have no significant ties to the land of Israel and are asking yourself, “Why should I sponsor an olive tree in Israel?”
This is a great question! There are many organizations across the globe doing various charity works within the Holy Land, and it can be very difficult to sort through them all. And then there is the research involved in determining if they truly are doing the kind of work that you would personally want to support… this can be a daunting and difficult task. So, we have taken this time to share with you a list of various ways that your tree sponsorship with My Olive Tree contributes directly into the nation of Israel and her people.
Standing with Israel…
When you sponsor an olive tree in the desert you are making a bold choice to stand with Israel—as the trees take root in the dry desert soil, you too are making a symbolic statement of solidarity with the nation of Israel.
Providing jobs…
Your tree will provide job opportunities for Israeli citizens living within the land. Many Jewish people are returning to the homeland of their ancestors, so many in fact that the job market is having a difficult time keeping up. Although many have immigrated, few are able to find jobs that can meet the needs of their families, as the cost of living in Israel is incredibly high. We endeavor to plant at least one million trees in the desert, as economists have long predicted that this amount of trees will provide enough jobs to meet the growing demand for jobs as the population continues to grow.
Caring for those in need…
Not only are the trees providing much-needed jobs, but also the fruit from each harvest generates products like the My Olive Tree Extra Virgin Olive Oil and also various olive based skin products that we offer, as well. The proceeds from these high-quality products are then returned in the form of humanitarian aid to the nation. My Olive Tree has various outreaches that include: homes for children and young adults who are in need; much needed safety equipment to IDF soldiers; groceries and other major necessities to families of IDF soldiers who have no significant income aside from their small military stipend; gifts of health equipment, and wellness opportunities for a small number of remaining Holocaust Survivors, and so much more…
Supporting a healthy ecology…
Olive tree groves and other forms of sustainable agriculture help to produce a healthier ecological environment both for people and wildlife. As we continue to turn the unyielding harsh climate of the desert into a tropical paradise of lush, food-producing vegetation, this process helps to preserve the land. Scientists have long pointed to the effects of planting trees in drought-forsaken areas to help produce greater rainfall. This process is referred to as afforestation.
“Growing trees take water from the soil and release it into the atmosphere. Tree leaves also act as interceptors, catching falling rain, which then evaporates causing rain precipitation elsewhere—a process known as evapo-transpiration.”[1]
As you can tell, there are many ways in which My Olive Tree is supporting the nation, her people, and the ecological environment, as well. It is through these unique ministries that we are able to show our love and support for this tiny nation whose existence is constantly in question.
So when you ask yourself, “Why should I plant an Olive Tree in Israel?” we simply have to ask, “Why not?” This unique opportunity to plant roots in this very special place will not only bless others, but it will reap exponential blessings into your life and the life of your family, as well. The Word of God states that, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”—Genesis 12.3
